Habitat Conservation

Loss, fragmentation and degradation of habitat are the number one killer of wildlife. Animals dying of starvation for lack of habitat is not an appropriate legacy for a state as richly blessed as California. That is why our Foundation remains dedicated to the protection of land.

Proposition 117

Prop. 117, the Mountain Lion Initiative, has protected vast acres wildlife habitat.  It established the Habitat Conservation Fund and provided $30 million per year for 30 years for habitat protection. It has saved land critical to the recovery of many rare, threatened and endangered species, such as the bald eagle, the California condor, and the Chinook salmon to name a few.
