As we began our 40th year of protecting America’s lion and helping people understand the importance of coexistence, two words kept guiding our thinking: we and future.
The future of mountain lions in America will not be shaped by one organization alone. It will be shaped by all of us – scientists, advocates, donors, volunteers, partners, and people who simply believe that wild places and the animals that define them deserve a future.
It will be shaped by we.
That belief led us to ask an important question:
What kind of organization do we need to be for the next 40 years?
To answer it, we spent the last several months working behind the scenes to rebuild the systems that help us connect with you and strengthen our work for mountain lions. We wanted to create an organization that is not only ready for the challenges ahead, but one that reflects the hope, resilience, and forward-thinking spirit that mountain lion conservation requires.
Today, we’re excited to share the beginning of that next chapter.
A New Look for a New Era
You may notice a refreshed visual identity – from our updated logo, featuring both an adult mountain lion and a cub, to a new color palette inspired by the lions and landscapes we work to protect.
The adult and cub symbolize both our responsibility to the present and our commitment to the future. Conservation is always an act of optimism. It is about ensuring that what we protect today will endure for generations to come.
A New Digital Home
We’ve also launched a redesigned website that makes it easier to explore our work, learn about mountain lions, discover ways to take action, and stay connected with the issues that matter most to you.
Whether you’re visiting to learn about coexistence, follow the latest science and policy, or become more involved in our mission, we hope our new digital home better reflects the community we’re building together.
Better Ways to Stay Connected
Behind the scenes, we’ve also upgraded the systems we use to communicate with you and manage our growing community of supporters. These new tools will help us share timely updates, tell deeper stories, and create more meaningful opportunities for you to engage with our work.
Most importantly, they will help us build stronger relationships with the people who make this mission possible: you.
Introducing: The Lion Effect
As part of this new chapter, you’ll begin hearing us talk more about something we call The Lion Effect.
Scientists call it a trophic cascade. We call it the Lion Effect.
Mountain lions do more than survive in an ecosystem—they help shape it. Their presence influences the behavior of prey species, protects plant communities, supports biodiversity, and contributes to healthier, more resilient landscapes.
In many ways, the lion shapes the land.
And together, we shape its future.
As we celebrate 40 years of conservation and look toward the decades ahead, we’re more hopeful than ever. The challenges facing mountain lions are real, but so is the growing community of people committed to ensuring that America’s lion continues to roam wild landscapes for generations to come.
Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping write the next chapter of mountain lion conservation.
Because the future belongs to all of us.
And it begins with we.
